Telemedicine and how it is defined can depend on how it is used. The definition changes from a highly sophisticated clinical monitoring device used in crital care – to a personal exercise monitor that uploads data to a Personal Health Record.

Telemedicine is the use of telecommunication and information technologies in order to provide health care at a distance. The distance can be as close as your primary care physician or as far away as an attending physician across boaders. It helps eliminate the distance barriers and can improve access to medical services that would often not be available in most cases. It is also used to save lives in critical care and emergency situations through secure internet access or personal storage systems like bracelets and pendants.

Telehealth and Telemedicine defined, is essentially a product of the internet and telecommunication information technologies. These technologies permit communications between patient / physician, family, advocates and medical staff with both convenience and security, as well as the transmission of medical, imaging and heath informatics data from one site to another. It is very cost effective over the outdated paper methods, far more accurate and can manage the form fill routine at the doctors office

Telemedicine technology varies from it’s applications it can provide support for online consultations with physicians, to phone applications that can track and upload information into a Personal Health Record for life.
