Implant dentures may just be the thing to brighten your million dollar smile

Implants provide a near-permanent, individualized solution for missing, aging, or diseased teeth.

What is the Denture Implant Process?

In the past, this type of procedure was performed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons; however, as the implant process has improved; more dentists are trained to perform this procedure right there in the dental office. This means less time and lower expenses for the patient.

After the dental professional reviews medical histories and X-rays, a denture model impression is made of the teeth and gums. A CT scan may be taken to ensure the proper distance between the sinuses and the upper teeth, allowing the dentist to determine where the small titanium posts should be inserted.

A temporary denture will be used for several weeks until it’s time for the introduction of permanent implants. During this time, the dentist can confirm proper placement, using the temporary denture as a guide. An incision is made into the gum, and several holes are drilled into the jawbone. Each titanium post is placed in the socket, and the incision is stitched up. The temporary denture will be worn to avoid direct pressure on the implants. Once the bone grows around the metal posts, the implant tooth is secure. This usually takes about 6 to 12 weeks.

Most dental implant patients say there is very little discomfort involved in the procedure. Local anesthesia is used during the procedure, and over-the-counter pain medications are recommended for post-procedure discomfort.

How long does it take to receive Denture Implants?

The time frame depends on several factors: gum and bone deterioration, the number of missing or damaged teeth, bone grafting, and oral health. This process can take as little as five months to one year.

What are the PROS of Dental Implants?

  • Dental implants have a success rate of up to 95%, making it one of the most successful dental procedures available.
  • Patients will enjoy added comfort and increased confidence with teeth that look and feel natural.
  • No more messy adhesive or cleaning products.
  • Eating and speaking are greatly improved.
  • If healthy teeth are still intact, the implant will only replace the missing teeth.
  • Titanium implants are bio-compatible.
  • An implant tooth is not susceptible to cavities.
  • Traditional dentures require costly replacement with loss, damages, or changes in bone density and gum shape.

What are the CONS of Dental Implants

  • Implant dentures are more expensive than regular dentures.
  • Receiving denture implants requires an invasive procedure, involving incisions, stitches, and anesthesia.
  • Patients who smoke or have a chronic disease may experience a longer healing time than patients who do not.
  • An implant tooth could break, become infected (peri-implantitis), or loosen.
  • A bone graft may be needed if your bones cannot support the implants. This will require additional time, cost, and surgery.

Could I be a candidate?

Anyone who is healthy enough to undergo oral surgery is a good candidate for this procedure. Patients will need to have healthy gums, adequate bone structure, and healthy oral hygiene practices (brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups).

Individual consideration will be given to patients who smoke heavily, have a chronic disorder (diabetes or heart disease), or have undergone radiation therapy to the head or neck area.

What is the cost of Dental Implants?

Typically, dental implants are not covered by dental insurance. Some patients have medical plan coverage, depending upon the reason for needing implants.

Costs typically range from $3,000 to $6,000 in the U.S. Many dental facilities in Costa Rica, El Salvador, India, and Mexico provide highly trained professionals and the same high-quality standard you would expect to receive for hundreds and in some cases thousands of dollars less than in the U.S.

Turn your dental experience into a vacation, pose for the camera, and say “cheese” with your brand new smile.
